Our Story
Hope Southern Indiana, formerly Interfaith Community Council, began in 1964 as the Downtown Neighborhood Council. The goal was to provide constructive after-school activities for youth in the center city of New Albany. Four churches shared in that vision and collaborated together to make this goal a reality. Through the years, depending on the existing needs in the community, programs were added, programs were changed and some programs were discontinued. Today, Hope Southern Indiana continues to build bridges between our churches and the community to best meet the needs of residents in southern Indiana through a variety of programs and services.
In addition, Hope Southern Indiana works with the community through collaborations and partnerships to best utilize the resources in the community to address the needs of individuals and families and to provide opportunities for service. It is a core value of the agency to work with all entities and persons of good will within the community and Hope is committed to treating people with grace, compassion and dignity while addressing their needs and assisting them in reaching their highest level of self-sufficiency.
